The Sun enters the sign of Cancer on June 21st at 3:52 a. m., Mountain Time. Cancer is a water sign that is associated with the sensitive Moon. In my book, Susie’s Sun Signs, I’ve named Cancer the Caregiver of the Zodiac, because of their big hearts. They are the natural mothers and fathers of all the signs and are great at taking care of their loved ones. Most are awesome cooks, too!
The big event as the Sun enters Cancer every year is the Summer Solstice on June 21st. The sign of Cancer always synchronizes with the beginning of summer. Remember the recent Cardinal Cross? Cardinal is the name for the signs that mark the seasons. Aries = spring. Cancer = summer. Libra = autumn. Capricorn = winter. I think all of them are perfect for their related seasons. Aries likes to start things, so it’s perfect for spring. Cancer is a sweet time to get together with family and loves ones, which happens during the summer and holidays. Libra is just works for the autumn. And of course, Capricorn likes to hibernate, so winter is perfect for them.
We enter into the sign of Cancer with Mercury already in retrograde, and will be from June 7th through July 2nd. This Mercury retrograde starts in Cancer and moves back into Gemini. The dates in Cancer are June 7th – 17th and then move into Gemini from June 17 – July 2nd, when Mercury turns direct. I’ve named retrogrades the editing phases in life. Mercury turns retrograde three times a year for three weeks each time. Having it retrograding in Cancer, which is associated with the kitchen, it would be a great time to clean out your spices and even your pots and pans. When is the last time you did that? It’s probably due. Then when Mercury enters Gemini, tackle your office and paperwork. If we do this right, our kitchens and offices will be sparkling clean with everything put away neatly. Right?
Since the Sun is in Cancer, the Full Moon this month will be in the opposite sign of Capricorn on July 12th. That is a Saturday and a perfect time for a summer party. Plan ahead!
Jupiter is also in focus during this month. Yes, it’s going to be setting soon in the glow of the Sun, but we might, I say might be able to see Jupiter align with the Moon one more time before Jupiter sets. Check out the evening of June 29th for our last chance to see them both in the western sky just after sunset. The Moon will be just above Jupiter, for a reference. Of course, once Jupiter sets, it will soon emerge in the predawn eastern sky for early morning viewing. The other thing Jupiter is doing now is ending its year-long stay in Cancer to enter Leo on July 16th, where it will be until August 12, 2015. Even though Jupiter in Cancer did give us a focus on family, I think Jupiter will be even happier in the flamboyant sign of Leo. Jupiter doesn’t understand moderation, which works well for Leo. We can expect a flashy year with this combination. Look for over-the-top entertainment with a big, Leo style.
