We just lost a rock icon. Who was Ozzy Osbourne, and what does his chart look like?
Ozzy was born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Marston, England. He was raised in a working-class neighborhood, where his father worked at a tool factory and his mother worked at a car parts company. He was dyslexic and struggled in school. Ozzy was bullied and dropped out at the age of 15. He even tried to take his life several times during this phase. Luckily, Ozzy was profoundly influenced by the Beatles’ song, “She Loves You,” and instantly wanted to become a performer. After numerous unfulfilling jobs, he teamed up with some musicians in the late 1960s and formed Black Sabbath.
The band’s style was dark, heavy and often addressed themes dealing with the supernatural, the occult and unrest in society. His title, “Prince of Darkness,” seems appropriate. They released their first album, “Black Sabbath,” in 1970. It is regarded as the first actual heavy metal album. They released several albums in the seventies that propelled them into rock stardom.
Despite their success, Ozzy was asked to leave the band in 1979 due to his challenges with drugs and alcohol. He had a lifetime problem with substance abuse and was in rehab a few times. Even though it looked like his career was over after Black Sabbath, it was, in fact, just beginning. He met Sharon Arden, who became his manager and his wife. Sharon Osbourne was the enduring force behind his career and his family. They had three children, Aimee, Kelly and Jack. His legendary albums, “Diary of a Madman,” “Bark at the Moon” and “No More Tears,” combined melody with heaviness and as a result, produced anthems. His controversial antics at live performances added to his fame. Most notable is the time he bit the head off a bat, live on stage. Hey, somehow that seems perfect for the Prince of Darkness.
His fans got to know him better with the reality series, The Osbournes, which aired from 2002 – 2005. This was a groundbreaking show, where the family allowed cameras into their home to see their real life, unedited. So, Ozzy is also credited with inventing reality TV, which has taken over television. The show gave a close up of Ozzy and his loving and relatively crazy family life. It also introduced him to a new generation of fans.
Ozzy struggled with addiction throughout his life and openly discussed his recovery. He also faced health challenges, including a near-fatal ATV accident in 2003. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020. Ozzy was a strong family man with six children and ten grandchildren. He and Sharon are very philanthropic and have supported organizations and causes, such as the Multiple Sclerosis Society and mental health awareness.
Ozzy has won Grammy awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath. He inspired countless artists across genres. To ensure his legacy, he started the Ozzfest music festivals in 1996.
Through his music, television shows, a mesmerizing personality, and of course, Sharon, he has become a cultural icon. He was loved and adored.
Let’s get to know him now through his chart.
Ozzy was born on December 3, 1948, in Marston, England. Unfortunately, his time of birth is unknown, so I’m using the sunrise of that day, which means we don’t have his rising sign. Ozzy’s Sun is in outgoing Sagittarius with his Moon in accomplished Capricorn.
What dominates his chart? The robust Grand Trine in earth signs is the major feature. This is a picture of the geometry between the planets in the sky at the time he was born in England. The red lines explain his challenges, and the blue lines show his talents. The yellow circles are conjunctions, meaning that the planets work together as a team.
The birth chart defines his lifetime purpose.
Starting with his red lines, his Sun in Sag is joined by Mercury, also in Sag in his first house. I call that the profile of brilliance. The Sagittarius personality gave him a dynamic way of expressing himself. Sun and Mercury are both square to Saturn in Virgo at the top of his chart. Saturn pushed him to excellence and maybe overwork.
Next, let’s look at his Moon in Capricorn, right next to Mars and Jupiter. Mars is action, Jupiter is abundance and the Moon incorporates his feelings and emotions. The Moon squares Neptune in his 11th house. Neptune is the planet of addictions and caused his major challenge with drugs and alcohol. Maybe Neptune was trying to calm down all the hard work that Saturn demanded.
Big Jupiter and driven Mars are both opposing the rebel, Uranus, in his 7th house. He broke old barriers with his hard metal style of rock and roll music. Ozzy basically developed the heavy metal genre. His wild hair, signature round sunglasses and purely gothic style were instantly recognizable. He was never afraid to call out society on outdated beliefs.
His last red line is Venus in Scorpio joining the South Node, also in Scorpio. Juicy secrets reside in this grouping, that’s for sure.
In summary of his red lines: Ozzy’s challenge was to radically break old styles while dealing with substance abuse.
Now let’s get to know his Earth Grand Trine. Ozzy has a powerful Grand Trine that dominates his chart. Almost half of the planets in his chart are in earth signs, which I’m sure helped stabilize him. He has a triple conjunction between Jupiter, Mars and the Moon, all in Capricorn, mostly in his 1st house. Jupiter is success, Mars is motivation, and the Moon incorporates his emotional makeup. This translates into ambition.
These three planets are all trine to Saturn in Virgo at the top of his chart. Saturn makes his ambitions real and helps him accomplish them easily. They are also all trine to his North Node in Taurus in his 5th house. The North Node is his point of destiny and ensures his success along with hardworking Saturn and all his determined planets in Capricorn. He was focused and serious when he was working on a project and didn’t stop until it was completed.
His Sun in Sagittarius is trine to powerful Pluto in Leo. He pushed himself to always do more. Pluto often propels a person to the top of their field, as it did with Ozzy.
His last trine is involved with his Venus in Scorpio and his South Node. This strongly explains his past life connection with Sharon and his family. The South Node is trine to revolutionary Uranus. This not only shows his unique and radical lifestyle, but it also somehow allows him to be a loving family man and an extreme wild man at the same time.
In summary of his blue lines: Ozzy’s dedication, ambition and love of his family balance his unhealthy lifestyle.
In summary of his chart: Ozzy’s destiny is to be successful in his career and in his family life, despite his bad habits.
