    Astrology of Pope Leo XIV

The big events that occurred this month were the passing of Pope Francis and the election of the new Pope, Leo XIV. He was born Robert Francis Prevost on September 14, 1955, in the Chicago area, which makes him a Virgo. The main keyword for Virgo is “service,” and it seems he personifies that quality.

I was raised Catholic, and even though I haven’t been to church in years, I think the saying stands true: “Once a Catholic, always a Catholic.” I admit that little six-year-old Susie is really happy right now. Pope Leo’s face is the image of kindness. His presence is bringing much-needed hope to the world at the perfect time.

Robert Prevost was born and raised on the south side of Chicago to a devoutly religious family. His mother, Mildred, who holds a degree in library science, was born in Chicago to a mixed-race family of Louisiana Creole heritage. His father, Louis, is a Chicago native of French and Italian descent who rose to the position of superintendent of a school district. Robert has two older brothers, Louis and John. The Prevost family placed a strong emphasis on education and community service. Pope Leo’s early childhood provided him with a multicultural upbringing that profoundly influenced his life.

Pope Leo is notable for being the first pope born in the United States, the first to possess dual citizenship from the U.S. and Peru, and the first from the Order of Saint Augustine. He was raised in the parish of St. Mary of the Assumption, where he attended school, sang in the choir and served as an altar boy. At quite an early age, he wanted to be a priest and would often hold mock Masses at home for his older brothers.

In high school, he excelled academically, earning commendations and participating in various roles, such as yearbook editor-in-chief and student council secretary. He showed early leadership skills and was a National Honor Society member. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, as well as a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Canon Law degree, all subjects he later taught. Oh yes, he is fluent in Spanish, French, Portuguese, English, Italian and of course, Latin.

After working as a missionary in Peru during the 1980s and 1990s, he became a parish pastor, seminary teacher and administrator. In 2023, Pope Francis appointed him president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America and made him cardinal. On February 6, 2025, he was promoted to cardinal-bishop.

Once Pope Francis passed away, Prevost was seen as a dark-horse candidate for the papacy, although his recent promotions boosted his visibility among the conclave members. After a surprisingly short two days, white smoke from the Sistine Chapel signaled the election of a new pope. Following his unanimous selection, he chose the name Leo.

Now that we know more about him, let’s take a look at his astrology. I’m not sure if he knows his astrology chart, but he chose his name wisely, since he has three very prominent planets in Leo in his personal chart!

Robert Prevost was born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, IL. His time of birth doesn’t seem to be available, so he doesn’t have a rising sign and I’m using noon as his time of birth. He has his Sun and Moon close to each other, which makes him a double Virgo. He also has Mars and Venus in Virgo, which means that 40% of his astrology chart is in the sign of service with diligence.

The main feature in Pope Leo’s chart is all of the prominent planets at the top of his chart in the sign of Leo! His chart is interesting because most of his planets are closely grouped together, usually indicating a calling or strong purpose in life.

His astrology chart is a picture of the solar system at his moment and location of birth. The red and blue lines pattern in the middle shows the geometry between the planets, or his mandala in the sky. The red lines indicate his intention, or what he wants to accomplish. The blue lines show his talents and gifts that will help him succeed with his mission. The birth chart defines his purpose in life.

Pope Leo’s Sun in Virgo was right next to the planet Venus when he was born. Venus in Virgo is love through service. His kind face shows the strong Venus in his chart. His years in Peru as a missionary working with the poor is a good example of how his Venus in Virgo works. His Sun and Venus have red lines to his North and South Nodes, who are the karmic indicators in the chart. His destiny is to give unconditional love to the world.

Let’s now get to know his planets in Leo at the top of his chart. He has Pluto, Jupiter and Uranus in Leo, the sign of leadership. Since we don’t know his time of birth, he might have the Moon in Leo too. Regardless, Pluto is conjunct his Moon which gives him a passionate nature. Pluto is the planet of power, and being close to Jupiter makes it even stronger. Jupiter is the international planet, which shows his interest in the world. He does speak six languages. Jupiter represents generosity and a desire to help people.

Jupiter has a red line to Saturn in Scorpio in the 12th house. I’ve named Saturn “Mr. Responsibility” because he sets a goal and easily accomplishes it. Saturn will give Pope Leo a need to protect people and help the world feel more secure. Since Saturn is square to Jupiter, he will work diligently to accomplish this and any big project he starts.

Also in his 9th house is the planet Uranus in Leo. Uranus represents change and keeping up with the times. He is one of the youngest Popes and will be here for quite some time to help bring care to humanity in a new way. The planet Uranus is square to Neptune in Libra in the 12th house. Neptune is the healer and has a truly spiritual side to it. One of his challenges is to be in a modern world and still maintain the doctrines of the Catholic Church.

In summary of his red lines: Pope Leo’s challenge is to bring unconditional love to the world while maintaining a balance between tradition and the future.

Now let’s get to know his positive blue lines. There is something very unusual about the geometry of his blue lines. He only has four blue lines, or trines, and they are all point to the Moon’s Nodes. In the Zodiac, the Nodes show the karmic mission in the chart. They indicate our destined path in this lifetime, with many astrologers linking them to past lives. He has red lines as well as blue lines going to his Nodes, which is also very unusual. It tells of him taking his mission so seriously that he succeeds.

The red lines show life challenges, and the blue lines show success. This chart has a calling. I’m not surprised he wanted to be a priest since he was a young child. Now let’s get to know his blue lines.

Looking in his 1st house, we find the North Node in Sagittarius. The North Node is his destiny, and Sag is international. It has two blue lines to his Pluto and Jupiter, who are his Leo planets of international leadership. It is his destiny to be a powerful world leader.

The South Node in his 7th house has two blue lines to his Mercury and Neptune, both in Libra, the sign of the diplomat. The talent of Libra is to bring people together. Mercury is good at public speaking and connecting with people. He loves to post on Instagram and to be part of humanity. Neptune is the healer and has a gentle strength.

In summary of his blue lines: Pope Leo’s talent is to bring the world together with his clear and positive communication.

In summary of his chart: Pope Leo’s destiny is to be a world leader, who brings unconditional love to humanity by encouraging international collaboration.
