Since music and astrology are my two passions, here is the chart for another musical icon: Prince. What a genius he was with both his lyrics and his music. If you listen to just a small riff, it’s easy to recognize the song as his. Somehow his rhythm is unique. Yes, I’m listening to Party Like it’s 1999, right now. Hey, I can dance and type at the same time!
The music career of Prince started in 1977 when he was signed up with Warner Bros at the age of 17. Since then Prince has sold over 100 Million albums worldwide. He produced 39 studio albums and 61 collaborative, video, internet and special editions albums. Prince’s musical style is genre defying and incorporates New Wave, rock, pop, R&B and funk. His album 1999 had a huge impact on future decades of dance, house, electro and techno music.
His album, Purple Rain, was the first album credited to Prince and The Revolution. That seems to be a good name considering his future contribution in changing the entire music industry. Prince was one of the very first artists who rebelled against an established music company and take charge of producing his own albums. He famously called himself a “Slave” to the music label and in 1993 and therefore changed his name Prince to an un-pronounceable “Love Symbol”, resembling the glyph for Venus. That change allowed him to produce his own music under his label of Paisley Park, which was also the name of his mansion estate in Minneapolis, MN.
The news was out about how he took charge, which combined perfectly with the changes occurring in the music industry. Prince was later recognized for his rebellion and was given the Webby Award for his vision as a pioneer in the new way artists now market their work. So Prince and The Revolution was a good name for him. Now let’s look at his chart, which is included at the end of this article.
Prince had his Sun in youthful Gemini, his Moon in creative Pisces and he had a sexy Scorpio Rising sign. No surprise with that one because Prince had a very Scorpio look to him. Purple is most definitely a Scorpio color. The Sun represents his inner essence, which is the Gemini writer. Prince was a prolific lyricist and was said to stay up for a couple of days in a row without sleeping when he was deep into making an album.
We’re looking at where the planets were in the sky when Prince was born. The planets live in the houses, or main areas in his life. The geometry in the center of the circle shows the mandala in the sky at his time and location of birth. The red lines show his challenges in life while the blue lines tell his talents.
Most of his red lines point to Mercury in his 7th house on the right, which is the house of relationships. The red line to Pluto in the 10th house of career gave him a test of how to deal with people or companies in positions of power. He loved to question the establishment. Looking at his Pisces Moon at the bottom in his 4th house, gave him a focus on his family. Purple Rain was all about how his father and mother got along, which was his most well-sold album of all.
His other red lines go to the 6th house of health. Even though he looked healthy and didn’t drink or take drugs, all the theatrics and jumping on stage in very high heels hurt his back. Apparently, he had chronic pain and got addicted to pain killers, which eventually killed him. The 12th house is the place of secrets and no one knew of this problem until his death on April 21st, 2016.
The other prominent planet in his chart is Uranus, the Rebel, right at the top of his chart. This will bring a change and yes, Revolution to the world, which he surely accomplished.
Now let’s look at the talents or blue lines in his chart. They are called trines, which is short for a triangle. His Sun is trine to Jupiter in his 12th house. Sun/Jupiter promises success. His Pisces Moon is trine to Neptune and his North Node in his 12th house. Neptune and Pisces are associated with each other and gave amazing creative talents to Prince. The North Node shows what he did in past lives and brought those innate talents to him this lifetime. It also gave him the chance to heal his emotions around his family of origin. Hopefully that happened before he passed. His last blue lines are from the hard-working Saturn in his 2nd house of money to his 6th house of work to his 10th house of his career. That showed success in negotiating with the powerful music companies.
To summarize his chart: His lifetime homework is to change the world through his passionate, and yes, sexy words and music. But to also challenge the established and soon-to-be outdated control by the music industry. He also needed to resolve family issues. Hopefully he accomplished all of those missions.
Now let’s look at his talents or blue lines. The main talent of Prince was his Gemini brilliance with words and music. His creativity was extraordinary and he did challenge the music industry . . . and won. Now many artists are producing their own music and just uploading them onto YouTube and receiving millions or even billions of views. Much of that was started by the pioneering and rebellious mind of Prince.
It was hard to lose Prince, but at least we have lots of his music . . . so he will always be with us.
