    Astrology of Tina Turner

Tina, named the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll”, passed away on May 24, 2023. She was so beloved by everyone that I wanted to honor her by doing her astrology chart.

She was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1938 at 10:10 pm in Brownsville, Tennessee. Her life was tragic until her later years. She was the daughter of a sharecropper and started picking cotton and strawberries as a small child. Her parents fought so much that she spent much of her time in the fields with plants and animals as her friends. At three years old, she and her older sister were given to the grandparents to raise and soon after that both her mother and father abandoned her and her sister.

She joined Ike Turner’s band as a singer when she was 18 years old and immediately married him. She was pregnant by one of Ike’s band members at that time, who then abandoned her. By the time she was 20 years old, she had two sons of her own as well as Ike’s two sons from a previous relationship. Ike beat her up for the entire 16 years of their marriage until a particularly brutal beating in the back of a limo ended the torture. Ike’s coke habit and numerous affairs were well known. She finally escaped in 1978 with 36 cents in her pocket. She lived on food stamps and hid from him at the houses of protectors. She cleaned their houses in trade for helping her.

Tina was struggling and in debt, but gradually began booking dates and finally hit the charts in 1984 with her breakout album, Private Dancer. In the US, that album remained in the top 100 for two years and eventually sold over 10 million albums worldwide. She acted in the films Tommy and Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome. A biographical film, What’s Love Got to Do with It, was released in 1993 and was adapted from her autobiography, I Tina: My Life Story. Ultimately, after having sold over 100 million records worldwide, Turner is one of the best-selling artists ever. She’s received 12 Grammys, 3 Grammy Hall of Fame awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award. She was the first black artist and woman to be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 1967. She is ranked among the 100 greatest artists of all time. She was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; once with Ike in 1991 and once as a solo artist in 2021.

In 1996, Tina met German music exec Erwin Bach, who was 16 years younger than her. That age difference didn’t seem to matter because after a long romantic relationship, in 2013, they got married on the banks of Lake Zurich in Kusnacht, Switzerland. She passed away peacefully in 2023 in her home there.  Not bad for the daughter of a sharecropper.

Now let’s look at her astrology chart. Tina’s Sun was in dynamic Sagittarius, Moon in expressive Gemini and a grand Leo Rising Sign. She was born exactly on a Full Moon. I do admit that her chart is one of the most complex I’ve seen, but I’ll break it down into small pieces so you can understand it.

Why is Tina’s chart so busy? It’s because her planets were fairly evenly distributed around the chart, so they could form angles to each other easily. The red lines show her life challenges while the blue lines explain her talents and gifts. She obviously came here to live her life to the fullest.

Tina has 3 red line configurations that are called T-Squares. One is her Full Moon axis pointing to Mars in the 7th house. The second one points to Venus in her 5th house. The last one points to Pluto in the 12th house. I’m going to start with the Full Moon axis.

Her Sun is right next to Mercury in Sag down in her 4th house. She performed on stage like a vibrant Sagittarius, that is for sure. Of course, she was known for her dancing and her long, athletic legs. She commanded the stage. Mercury is the communicator, who helped her so she could express herself with fire energy, too.

Tina was born on the Full Moon in Gemini, that is up in her 10th house of career. The Moon is about emotions and Gemini wants to express her emotions to the world. Maybe her most famous song is “What’s Love Got to Do with It?”, which is all about emotions.

Her Full Moon axis is being squared by Mars in Pisces in the 7th house of marriage. Mars is anger and aggression. Pisces can often be about drugs. It was well known that Ike Turner had a raging cocaine addiction and beat her up for the 16 years they were married. This violence-prone Mars held her captive for much of her life.

Looking at her second T-Square pointing to Venus in Sag in her 5th house of children. Venus is about beauty and Tina had a dynamic style with Venus in Sag. The 5th house is about performing but it’s also about children. Her protection for her children probably kept her in an abusive relationship with Ike. Venus is square to creative Neptune in her house of money and is also square to successful Jupiter in her 8th house of others’ money. Neptune would give her the talent to be a star, especially with the help of grand Jupiter. This challenge is her needing to work to take care of her children, which was very difficult until she went solo and found success.

Her last T-Square points to Pluto in her 12th house. Pluto is the planet of power and is inner power in that house of spirit. She needed to find her power to be able to stand up to Ike and go solo. Her Pluto is square to the Moon’s Nodes in the 3rd and 9th houses. The Nodes are indications of past life patterns. Also, to make it a lot harder, is karmic Saturn joining her South Node. That indicates heavy karma from past lives that held her power down. This lifetime she needed to reach deep inside and find her strength. Which she ultimately did.

In summary of her red lines: The lifetime challenge of Tina Turner was to be strong enough to stand up to abusive men and protect herself and her children.

Luckily, Tina has a dominant Grand Trine in her chart with several other blue lines for support. Her Sun and Mercury in Sag in her 4th house are trine to her strong Pluto! She was destined to eventually find her inner strength. They both form a triangle with successful Jupiter in her 8th house of money. She found her inner strength so she could be successful.

She has 2 blue lines, or trines, from her Venus up to her South Node and Saturn. This gave her a focus on her children and to eventually have a good relationship in her life. One other blue line is from her North Node to pesky Mars in her 7th house. This talent was to clear up her karma with men so she could finally find love.

Her last blue line is from creative Neptune to radical Uranus at the very top of her chart. Uranus breaks the molds that were set from before. In 1971, when she rocked Proud Mary, I bet it was pretty shocking to the world. But everyone got used to her gyrations and ended up loving them. She of course opened the doors for future artists, like Beyonce.

In summary of her blue lines: Tina Turner was destined to find her inner strength so she could be successful in her career as well as in her private life.

To summarize her chart: Tina Turner was here to be a successful performer while being strong and happy in her personal life.

It took until later in Tina’s life, but she found her power and fell in love with a kind man. She did what she was meant to accomplish and did it well. Now let’s look at the transits when she passed.

Tina’s birth chart is in the center and the transiting planets are around the outer circle. The inner chart never changes but the planets in the sky, called the Transits, are always moving. They move in a counterclockwise direction as my arrow shows. They also move according to their individual speeds or orbits. The Sun to Mars are fast and Jupiter out to Pluto are the slow planets.

Tina’s transits are very rare and only happen at an advanced age. She was 85 when she passed. The first one to look at is the circle at the top of the chart. Uranus in the sky was exactly joining her birth Uranus. This is the planet of sudden change and creates freedom in a person’s life. It is in her 10th house of fame and recognition. She will be successful, even after her death.

The next transit to look at is Neptune in her 8th house. Neptune, the planet of spirit, is joining her Jupiter. Neptune is opposing her birth Neptune too. Often this is when people are very spiritual and psychic. She was likely in a dream state with this transit. The 8th house is also the house of death.

The last big transit she had involved Pluto. She has transiting Pluto opposing her birth Pluto. Yes, Pluto is involved with death and rebirth. It just so happened that the Moon and Mars were right next to her Pluto too. When those two planets are together, they create emotional intensity. The world was shocked at the news of her death.

There is perfection with astrology in the birth chart as well as in the chart of Tina’s transition into spirit. She made the world a much better place and we are blessed to have had her with us.
